The National Building Fire & Safety Authority (NBFSA) is the apex statutory regulatory body established under the National Building Safety & Fire Hazard Prevention Act, 2026 by the Ministry of Housing, Urban Affairs & Disaster Management, Government of India.
Statutory Mandate
To establish, regulate, and enforce unified national benchmarks for building structural integrity, seismic resistance, fire safety engineering, periodic statutory inspections, and digital compliance certification across all residential, commercial, industrial, and assembly structures in India.

- National Building Code (NBC 2026) Enforcement: Formulating mandatory safety specifications for high-rise, commercial, and public assembly buildings.
- Unified Fire NOC Certification: Digital issuance and 3-year recurring verification of Fire Safety No-Objection Certificates (NOC).
- District Safety Cadre Deployment: Operating District Safety Enforcement Cells across all 760+ districts in India led by District Safety Officers (DSO).
- Whistleblower & Hazardous Premise Sealing: Investigating unsafe structures and issuing statutory sealing or demolition orders under Section 14(2).
- Empanelment of Third-Party Auditors: Certifying chartered structural engineers, fire auditors, and non-destructive testing (NDT) agencies.
